The Body

It has taken some time to build the body. I started around Christmas gluing up ash boards. Making three 20 x 15 1 3/4 body blanks. My big concern was how in the world was I going cut the body? I was shocked by the local wood supply to hear them say they couldn't touch it for under $200.00. I also contact a certain guitar builder to see if he might be interested (I was falsely told he would).
That lead to me going for it myself. I tried two ways to cut the body. I routed one and cut the other with a jig saw. Both seemed to work fine. Not as good as a band saw, I presume.

Gluing seemed to go easily. I was told to flip the grains in case the wood starts to bow. I haven't noticed any bowing. It's really solid wood.

Here is what one side looked like after I cut it with my router. I did kill the router doing this, but it was a very old router. I thinking it lived a good life. My new router rocked through the rest of the job.

I then started contouring the body just like the original Mosrites.

I started to create the contour with a spoke knife, but soon moved to a faster process. I put a drum sander bit on the end of a drill. With a really course grit I could contour the body a lot quicker.
